HISTORY OF THE STUD

The GWARCHOD stud was established in May 1988 when we purchased our first Welsh cob, a dark bay mare Mabinogion Myfanwy by Mabinogion Cariadog and out of Fronarth Bessy by Cahn Dafydd .

Our interest in breeding Welsh cobs developed alarmingly quickly with the purchase of Cyfyng Myfanwy, a striking black mare from a very well known thoroughbred breeder, the late Mr Derek Gethin, Ty'n y Bryn, Tregynon, Newtown after a stud visit to the stud. Fortunately for us the mare had a colt foal at foot by Big Ivor and was carrying a foal also by him. A long lasting friendship with both the Gethin and Jones families ensued and we are still in contact over horses. Both colts, registered as Welsh Part Breds went on to excel in eventing and show jumping. - www.tynybrynfarms.com
